What to plant in time for Spring!
As the gorgeous weather of Spring starts to roll in, what better time to start planting some herbs, veggies, fruits and flowers. I’ve done some extensive research so you don’t have to! Take a look at the perfect things to plant in the beginning of Spring:
Start planting all your fruits and veggies in time for the coming Summer! Plant things like beetroot, cucumber, lettuce, chilli, onion, squash, tomato, watermelon and rockmelon. (Please note that it may take up to 2 years to grow the watermelons, but you’ve gotta start somewhere, right?!)
Plant seedlings of chives, garlic, oregano, parsley basil and dill. These grow so quickly and so beautifully. Be vigilant with watering and weeding and you’ll have an incredible array of fresh herbs in no time! Spring is the best time to plant these herbs as its perfect weather for them to kickstart their growing journey.
Stunning flowers that will grow beautifully in the spring
For spring, Northam can get quite hot, quite quickly. So, the best thing to do is to find some beautiful flowers that can withstand some unpredictable weather. Here’s what will grow fantastically in our area for the season of Spring: Aster, Carnation, Daisies, Dianthus, Petunia, Allysum, Salvia and Zinnia. Such beautiful additions to any garden!
Things to look out for!
Look out for fruit flies. As Summer approaches and Spring ends, Fruit flies will be your biggest nightmare! To keep on top of the nasty little pests, I have listed two DIY hacks below to protect your treasured plants!
Hack 1: Cover your fruit, veggie and herb plants with shade cloth. This will stop the flies in their tracks and deny them access to your yummy fruits and veggies!
Hack 2: All you need is some Lemon Grass essential oil and some warm water and spritz away! Create a barrier around your plants with your remedy and the flies will steer clear!
We hope this guide and little tips have been helpful and that you have gained inspiration to get your gardening on this Spring! Professionals Avon Valley would love to see what you have in your gardens, so send us some pictures of your growing greenery!
